On 25 April, 2017 an innovation project called “Bangladesh National Museum’s Virtual Gallery” was launched by the joint initiative of Access to Information (a2i) Programme and Bangladesh National Museum.
Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Advisor Energy, Mineral and Power Resources department to the Honorable Prime Minister inaugurated the ‘Virtual Gallery’ as chief guest. Faizul Latif Chowdhury, Director General of Bangladesh National Museum delivered inaugural speech, he welcomed everyone to the program and explained how anyone from anywhere in the world can use internet to visit this virtual gallery and access animated content developed on 3,000 exhibitions available in 36 galleries of the museum at their own comfort.
Asaduzzaman Noor MP, the Honorable Minister of Cultural Affairs; Md. Nazrul Islam Khan, Curator of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum; and. Kabir Bin Anwar, Director General (Administration) of Prime Minister’s Office and Project Director of a2i Programme were present as special guests.
Honorable Minister of Cultural delivered his speech that ‘as part of the government’s initiatives to uphold the country’s history, culture and heritage to the common people as well as the world community, the virtual gallery has been launched so that the people could visit the museum easily using internet. “We have a plan to build more museums across the country to ensure access of the common people to the museum,” he said, adding that now the extension work of the national museum is underway’.
