On 2nd January 2017 at Karabi Hall in Prime Minister’s Office, the Access to Information (a2i) Programme of the Prime Minister’s Office organized an Exhibition for 14 disability related projects funded by a2i’s Service Innovation Fund followed up with a Discussion Forum. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Honorable State Minister for Social Welfare Nuruzzaman Ahmed, MP, as the chief guest. The special guests included the Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, the Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare Md. Zillar Rahman, and the Vice Chairman of Shuchona Foundation Professor Dr. Pran Gopal Datta. The event was chaired by the Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Suraiya Begum ndc.
Till date, a total of 133 projects have been funded by Service Innovation Fund (SIF). Out of these, 13 projects are related to disability being implemented by 1 public office, 7 private sector organizations, 2 NGOs, 1 university, and 2 individuals. Beside this, there is a disability related project among the winning projects in last year’s Solve-a-Thon, a national competition to bring about citizen centric innovation from the youth. The innovators of these 14 projects demonstrated their products to the event visitors.
After a brief presentation on a2i’s different major initiatives by a2i’s Policy Advisor Anir Chowdhury and a2i’s Director (Innovation) Md. Mustafizur Rahman on Service Innovation Fund and the displayed projects, a discussion forum was also held about the existing status of the disability related projects and the needful for successful implementation and future upscaling of these projects. a2i’s Director (Innovation) Md. Mustafizur Rahman briefly explained all the disability related Service Innovation Fund facilitated projects. Among others, the program was attended by disability focused public-private organizations, NGOs, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Managing Directors and higher officials of selected banks and media representatives.
