The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), which was held in Geneva in 2003 and in Tunis in 2005, drew up an action plan to bridge the digital divide and build an inclusive, people-oriented information society. Since then every year, the International Telecommunication Union of the United Nations organizes the WSIS Forum. This creates the avenue for exploring activities, including projects, programmes, training initiatives, conferences, websites, guidelines, tool-kits, etc., carried out by governments, international organizations, the private sector, civil society and other entities.
For the 4th year in a row, a2i program of the Prime Minister’s Office will be representing Bangladesh in this grand international event and also receiving the prestigious WSIS Prize for 4 initiatives namely:
- DAISY-standard Accessible Reading Materials for Students with Visual and Print Disabilities
- a2i’s Social Media in Public Service Innovation Initiative
- Nothi: Less Paper Office
- Rural Entrepreneurship Model for Telemedicine Services using locally developed PC and Smartphone-based diagnostic equipment and software
